“I think it’s great and a great way to get young entrepreneurs and like minded professionals together,” said Hendler. “It’s a great way to find out what’s going on in the industry, connect and collaborate.”

Hendler grew up in a dynamic cultural environment, where she was exposed to design and architecture very early on. Her grandfather was a Russian engineer who immigrated to Mexico before World War II and later collaborated with famed architect Lloyd Wright to build his home in Beverly Hills.

Hendler’s grandmother was an accomplished concert pianist, instilling a love for classical music and world culture in her grandchildren. Her own mother studied fine arts and nurtured Hendler’s creativity from a very young age. Trips to museums, theater, concerts and zoos were a major influence in her youth and set the stage for the inquisitive and passionate world view she holds today.

Hendler, who was born and raised in SoCal, contends that marketing, branding and Social Media are critical to grow your business as a startup and survive the economy.

SBYP mixer meeting attendance has skyrocketed to 500% according to founder Lucas Bean. This month it was elbow-to-elbows meet and greet at MAKAI. For a slide show of the event and other SoCal activities visit: http://mayocommunications.com/MAYOEVENTS.html.

“Social Media is important from Facebook to Twitter, you need to have those platforms to engage with your customer base and take advantage of the marketing opportunities involved,” explain Hendler. “We’ve done several partners through our social channels and it’s absolutely a crucial part of our business.”

Hendler is a California-based artist who specializes in monochromatic pen drawings of land dwelling animals and oceanic life.  Her new start up EJH BRAND, Venice California has a niche in lifestyle branding.  She even brought her latest artwork for iPhone and temporary tattoos to the SBYP event for tech saavy consumers.  On Hendler’s Instagram, there’s more artwork, including a trendy bicycle design she created. (http://instagram.com/ejhbrand) “It was on the cover a bicycle magazine,” she said.

EJH Brand is an American luxury lifestyle brand featuring her original artwork that nicely stands out on almost any background, but becomes more brilliant on the color white. Last year, Hendler launched the Wildlife Collection, a series of limited edition artwork featuring five designs, which she extended to a boutique product line for the home. This new collection features fragrant candles, luxury stationery and wildlife throw pillows all designed and manufactured in California.

Asked for advice for college students and how to prepare for the design world she said, “It’s really what you have a passion for, the relationships you’ll develop and the skills that you develop on the job that matter,” Hendler said. “You really need to get to meet people, show them what you’re passionate about and show them what you can do for them to be successful.”

Hendler said trends she’s notice are products “Made in the USA,  so we’re focusing on that at the moment with handcrafted and designer brands, where you are really connecting on social channels with people, who are creating the products. That’s important to consumers in a new way,” she said.

Hendler admits that a majority of EJH BRAND’s competing manufacturers do make products overseas.  “For me when I founded the company, it was really important to focus on local products made in L.A. since we’re in Venice,” she said. “I think it really makes a difference.”

What’s next for EJH BRAND?  “We’re actually working on distribution deals globally for such countries as Australia and Manilla.
